Friend of Thai Science Award 2024 Nominations are open
Every year, the Office of Higher Education, Science, Research, and Innovation
at the Royal Thai Embassy, Washington D.C. recognizes 2 candidates
who have made significant contributions in STEM fields benefitting Thailand,
by awarding them the Friend of Thai Science Award.
To qualify:
1. The nominee must currently work or have had experience in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, or Mathematics.
2. The nominee can be a Thai or non-Thai citizen but must reside in the U.S., Canada, or Latin America.
To nominate someone, send their resume and a one-page summary describing their contributions to ost@thaiembdc.org by August 20, 2024.

Congratulations to Professor Noel A. Clark, Ph.D.
American physicist, university professor at the University of Colorado Boulder, and pioneer in the development of electro-optical applications of liquid crystals.
Prof. Clark supported and help to contribution of Thailand Liquid Crystals in Space (TLC) program by submitting a proposal to NASA for Thai scientists, namely Assoc. Prof. Dr. Natthaporn Chatthaem and Asst. Prof. Dr. Apichart Pattanaphok. Rattana from the Department of Physics Faculty of Science Kasetsart University participated in the project to study liquid crystals in space, or OASIS II, and received response from NASA, which led to a memorandum of understanding between NASA and Kasetsart University on the study of liquid crystals in space, signed on 24 June 2021

Congratulations to Associate Professor Vira Chankong

Dr. Vira Chankong has continuously supported and played a major role in the development of various projects in Thailand for over 30 years including the creation of the Center of Excellence for Thai University ecosystem. He also pushed for Thailand's engineering programs to receive the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET), making engineering education in Thailand accepted by the international system for the first time. In addition, as Director of the NSTDA Brain Drain Project, he spearheaded and took a sabbatical leave for one year to work in Thailand in order to recruit Thai experts in various fields to return and work in Thailand.
